Fantastic mother’s day gift – the one that keeps on giving!

Last week I had a basic bread class with six gorgeous students, two of whom came all the way from Asia.  Mum (Singapore) and daughter (Hong Kong) were in London enjoying a Chinese New Year holiday and found us online.  They joined a crew of men and women from London and Bedford, one of whom was a German transplant – so all in all it was a very international crowd.

We baked biovetta – buns from Italy, a very English “sandwich loaf” bread, Irish soda bread and “no knead” flat bread from the  alps.  Then we ate (lots) of bread  and packed huge amounts away to warm bodies and souls on the way home.  Joe had no doubt that his four grandchildren would demolish the bread in no time!

It's amazing Joe's got home at all! The butter was out on the freshly baked bread quicker than anything!

It was lovely to watch mum and daughter communicating in the way that mothers and children have around the world. It was also lovely to see them share their bread, comparing notes and competing gently and humourously for the most beautiful buns.

We took this to prove to Brendan's mum that he attended! Now we think it's his turn to buy the gift for her!
