30 new home bakeries in the UK and beyond
Posted on 24. Aug, 2011 by virtuousbread in Bread Angels, Bread Making Courses
Last week I completed the last Bread Angel course of the summer. Sad because it is the end of the summer. Glad because there are now 30 people in the world committed to making good bread and providing it to their local communities. Let me give you the latest breakdowns.
Locations include: Home counties, Northern Ireland, West Country, London, Wales, Sussex, Welsh Boarders, Belgium, the Peak District, the Midlands, East Anglia, Scotland, and the USA.
Nationalities include: British, American, Canadian, Spanish, Italian, Luxembourgish, and French.
Professional backgrounds include: retired, teaching, IT , health care, full time parenting, and trading.
10% of the Bread Angels are men.
Age range from early 20s to mid 60s.
Some of the bakers are extremely active, have named and established their businesses, are baking up a storm, taking over the trade at the village shops and displacing the commercial bread markets locally (that's what we like to see!). Some of the bakers are somewhat active, supplying friends and family who beg them for more - if only they had more time! Others are not particularly active, but I hope they learned something and are baking at home for themselves and friends from time to time.
A success? Judged by any measure - yes. I hope to see some of them back to do the teachers' course so they can teach baking where they live, enabling others to earn money by supplying good bread to their local communities and, in doing so, building relationships, health, and happiness.

Hi Jane
just a note to say I am still waiting for your angel in Leicester to contact me. I have phone a few times and lefdt messages too. I read with interest on your website that 10% of student were men. I am ready to start my venture, funding was approved and I must weigh up the best way to build a business and would really like to engage with your organization since it is a concept I like very muc. Could you be so kind to advise me again how to contact your Leicester angel
Thanks Albert

Hi all, love the virtuous concept . Sad to read there are few active peeps in & around Lancashire & very little current dialogue on this site. Is there way I can contact bakers who are currently trading, contemplating "going commercial" in the coming year or have tried it & found it wasn't for them?
Ciao Andrew
