The Bread Category of the Small Food Awards was incredibly well populated! Boxes and boxes of bread piled up on the day of the judging. Wayne Caddy - one of the bread tutors at SAF - sniffed, squeezed, cut and tasted his way through many, many loaves! In the end, three stood out.
In second place came Darrin Romp, of the Hampshire Bread Company, with his Olive and Onion Sourdough.
In first place came Patrick Bowden, of Indigo Bakes, with his White Sourdough.
All winners received bags, aprons and scrapers from Russums; discounts on courses at SAF, and a gift of flour from Gilchester's Organics. In addition, Patrick won a sourdough starter kit from Bakery Bits, as well as business and marketing strategy coaching from Jane Mason, founder of Virtuous Bread and Camilla Barnard co-founder of Rude Health.
