Judging for the Small Food Awards was a few weeks ago. Our panel of experts included the manager of the farm shop at Welbeck, the man behind Stichelton cheese, Wayne Caddy, the tutor of most of the bread courses at the School of Artisan Foods, a head chef, a food consultant, and enthusiastic gluttons! With five categories (bread, cheese, charcuterie, viennoiserie, and chocolate) we learned a lot and we came to know a wonderful group of dedicated micro producers who show talent, determination, and love for what they do.
It was difficult to choose the winners but we persevered and selected the top three in each category. Those who could attended the award ceremony two weeks ago up at the School of Artisan Food where we had a wonderful lunch, a short award ceremony and a big celebration of small food producers in the UK. Keep reading! Over the next few days we will post the winners in each category so you can get to know them better.
