Bread Angels strike gold at the World Bread Awards

The World Bread Awards were more popular than ever this year.  More entries, more categories and a much higher standard of competition.  The Global HQ of Virtuous Bread is thrilled to announce that Bread Angels picked up an impressive collection of 18 awards and were runners up in two categories.

Bread Angels are all professional bakers.  They run microbakeries from their homes, baking and selling bread in their local communities to neighbours, from local businesses, and at local markets.  They know most of their customers personally and act as a cherished resource providing excellent bread and nurturing relationships that are one of the keys to holding their communities together.

Their achievements are fantastic not least because they do not have the fancy equipment most bakeries have, such as steam injected ovens or proofing chambers.  Their achievements are particularly marvellous to me because every Bread Angel started his or her career by taking the Bread Angel micro bakery course, something I started and we have all developed over the past eight years.  Many Bread Angels had never baked a loaf of bread before doing the course but there was something - just something - that drew them to the idea of making bread their business.  Many of the award winners teach baking, and if you click here, you can book a course with one of them.  All of them sell bread, so you can buy bread from them too - depending on where you live.
